Senator Moore posts reward for Pout Pond vandals |
|
April 28, 2005 – “There is no place for vandalism of public property in Uxbridge’s future,” Senator Richard T. Moore told members of Uxbridge’s Future Committee last night. The committee has been planning a restoration and re-opening of the Pout Pond recreation area as one of several projects aimed at bringing townspeople together after years of bitter disputes, mostly over the question of new school facilities. Senator Moore, who established and chairs the Uxbridge’s Future Committee, announced that he was personally offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for damaging the Pout Pond facility during last week’s school vacation. “Damaging the Pout Pond facility hurts the young people of Uxbridge making it more difficult to provide better recreational opportunities for our town’s youth,” Senator Moore stated. The property, which is under the control of the Uxbridge Conservation Commission, has been the subject of extensive planning by a subcommittee of the Uxbridge’s Future Committee headed by School Committee Member Nancy Lyle, local architect and former Selectman Philip Wheelock, and Fire Chief Peter Ostroskey. The group hoped to have some portion of the long-time town swimming area open as early as this summer, however the vandalism may cause a delay in those plans as security of the facility is re-evaluated. In recent weeks, several local developers, the Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational School, and others have been approached by committee members to assist with the restoration of the beach, dressing rooms and lavatories, and refreshment stand. The popular local recreation area was closed several years ago because of the lack of lifeguards and the need for repairs. Local residents have expressed enthusiasm over the restoration project as a means of helping residents to put aside past differences by supporting a positive goal for which there is wide community support. Senator Moore stated that anyone with information that could assist police in their investigation of the Pout Pond vandalism should contact Officers P.J. Stuczynski, Kevin MacDonald and Michael Divittocall at the Uxbridge Police Department at 508-278-7755. |
