Senate passes bill to improve water supply and distribution system in Oxford

July 10, 2006 – Today, Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) and his Senate colleagues passed important legislation that will allow the Town of Oxford to use its funds to construct a water storage tank and associated water main extension.

“This bill will significantly improve water supply infrastructure in Oxford and contribute to the economic growth of the area,” Moore said. “The town is growing and in order to accommodate the commercial and industrial developments and to address fire safety concerns, this legislation was needed,” said Senator Moore. “With the support of my colleagues, we were able to get this bill moved out of the Senate today.

In the past 20 years, the town has been experiencing significant development that the water supply system could not satisfy. The bill passed today authorizes the town to build a 500,000 gallon water storage tank on town-owned land located off Sutton Avenue, lay approximately 1,000 feet of water main extension and enter into a contract with Aquarion Water Company to manage and maintain the facilities for a mutually agreed upon period of time.

The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.
