Senate passes Moore’s bill creating shared parking facilities at Stanley Woolen Mill and the Blackstone Canal Park

July 31, 2006 - During the last night of formal session, legislation sponsored by Senator Richard T. Moore (D-Uxbridge) that would establish shared parking facilities for the Stanley Woolen Mill complex and the Blackstone Canal State Park in Uxbridge was enacted by the Senate.

“The passage of this legislation moves the redevelopment of the Stanley Woolen Mill project foward,” said Moore. “This bill will provide increased parking spaces for both the state park and the Stanley Woolen Mill complex which will be beneficial to the community and the Commonwealth. I am confident that the completion of this project will bring visitors, increased revenue and economic vitality to the Blackstone Valley.”

This legislation is a vital component to the historic redevelopment of the Stanley Woolen Mill complex. This project will rehabilitate the vacant building into a retail and visitor center. The construction and maintenance costs of the additional parking lots will be covered by the mill owners and requires no additional funding from the Commonwealth. The parking rights on the property will be conveyed from the Department of Conservation and Recreation to Deane Redevelopment LLC of Boston.

With the support of Representative James E. Vallee (D- Franklin) to release the bill from the House Ways and Means Committee, and Reps. Paul Kujawski (D-Webster) and Jennifer Callahan (D-Sutton), who represent Uxbridge in the House of Representatives and are co-sponsors, the bill was able to win passage in that branch.

The bill is now laid before the Governor for his consideration. He has ten days to act on this bill.
