Senator Moore encourages communities to apply for recreational trail grants

August 9, 2006 – Senator Moore encourages towns to apply for the 2007 recreational trail grants offered by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).

“These grants are a great opportunity for the multiple trail projects in my district to receive funds,” said Senator Moore. “The completion of these projects will bring socio-economic and environmental benefits to the area. I encourage these trail committees to take advantage of the program.”

The Recreational Trails Program provides funding for a variety of trail protection, construction, and stewardship projects throughout Massachusetts. This national program makes funds available to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for both non-motorized and motorized recreational trail uses. The Program is funded through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and administered in Massachusetts on a reimbursement basis by the DCR, in partnership with the Massachusetts Recreational Trails Advisory Board, and the Executive Office of Transportation (EOT).

The deadline to submit proposals for consideration and all supporting material is October 2, 2006. Grant awards will be announced in late spring 2007.
