How does Form 16 work:
For salaried employees, Form 16 may be the most important document needed to file their ITR filing (ITR). Salary certificates, also known as Form 16, are issued annually by their employers, confirming that Income Tax has been deducted at source (TDS) and passed on to the collecting authorities by the employer.
What Is the Importance of Understanding Form 16?
Knowing the various sections of Form 16 will assist you in completing your tax return. In addition to making employees aware of any refunds on overpaid taxes, Form 16 can also be used to help them obtain a credit card limit or apply for a loan. Form 16 is also considered income proof by banks and financial institutions, and employees are able to apply for credit cards or loans with the certificate.
For all these reasons, it’s advisable to read and understand Form 16 carefully before filing your ITR. However, Form 16 is issued by the employer, so be sure to check with the HR department of your organization/company about its status.

What Is the Procedure for Filing an Itr Without Form 16?
To calculate and forecast your gross income, you might need your pay stubs, if your employer does not provide Form 16.
ITRs can be filed without Form 16, but it can be a tedious process. To calculate the exemption for allowances, the employee must use his/her gross salary from his/her pay-slips. Other sources of income, such as house ownership and capital gains, must then be declared by the employee. The final tax liability must be cross-referenced against the amount of TDS paid for that financial year after accounting for investments made under Section 80. In the event that an employee has paid less tax than he/she was supposed to, he/she can pay the difference when filing the ITR online.
A taxpayer can, however, request a refund if they have paid too much in taxes.
