FSSAI product approval is the process by which a product gets approved by the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India. FSSAI product approval is required for products which contain ingredients and/or additives which are not as per prescribed standards in the Food Safety and Standards Act and Regulations. Approval process for FSSAI products
In India, you can obtain FSSAI approval by following the following steps:
The incorporation of businesses
Business owners can use an FSSAI product approval as an intangible asset to manufacture or market certain types of food products in India. FSSAI approvals are issued only after a lengthy process and are subject to high processing fees. To ensure that business and/or fssai food license can be easily transferred at a later date, it is recommended to submit the FSSAI product approval application from a corporate entity such as a private limited company or limited liability partnership.
Operator’s license for food businesses
In order to manufacture, handle, sell, or handle food products, a food business operator license is required. Food business operator license certificates must be submitted along with the application for food product approval. As such, the business should obtain a license in its name if one is required.
Test Reports
Test reports from NABL-accredited labs must accompany the application for food product approval. In addition to the claims on the label, NABL lab reports validate the ingredients, claims on the label, and other parameters of the food product. Food products will undergo different types of tests depending on their nature. Here is a list of NABL accredited labs in India:
Food Product Label
Labels must accompany the FSSAI application for food product approval. Labels need not be printed since they can be prototypes and do not need to be printed. Food product labels in India must comply with the FSSAI Food Product Labeling Standards.
